About Laurence

Hi, I am Laurence, I am a qualified and registered nutritional therapist and a clinic assistant supervisor at the London College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM).

I am also a NLP practioner and a # sober coach who supports people who are motivated to stop/ reduce their alcohol intake. I combine a holistic personalised nutrition approach with health coaching to help people to make changes and get into the right mindset.

CNM Laurence Nutrition Diploma

I trained for 3 years at the prestigious London College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) and obtained a diploma in nutritional therapy. My intense training involved the studies of biomedicine, pathologies and over 200 hours of clinical practice. I have also trained as a sober coach with Janey Lee Grace from the Sober Club. I work with individuals who are qualified as ‘gray drinkers’.

I am governed by the main bodies for nutritional therapists in the UK, BANT (British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine) and CNHC (The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council). I am fully insured to work with clients and abide by the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) rules.

I also continue to further my knowledge through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) education, and I am a member of Practice with Confidence which offers to practitioners additional training and support with medication interactions and polypharmacy.

What is my Story with Nutrition?

I chose to study nutrition because I became curious about the health benefits of food. After spending most of my professional life in international trade and traveling for work, I wanted to take care of my family and age gracefully. My mother, Madeleine, has been suffering from arthritis, and I wanted to support her in living a pain-free life and enjoying it to the fullest.

With the knowledge I gained from my nutrition diploma and my mom's willingness to feel better, we were able to improve her quality of life by reducing her pain. Madeleine, who had never been to the gym before, now, at the age of 74, goes to the gym three times a week and follows the Mediterranean diet, which she loves. Eating well, taking care of herself, and exercising has become an integral part of her life. As a result, Madeleine not only feels more confident and smiles more, but she is also able to travel and enjoy life to the fullest!

Supporting my mom in this journey ignited a desire in me to help others age well so they can also enjoy a good life with their loved ones. That's why I want to share my knowledge and support others in their health journeys. I believe that prevention is key to maintaining good health, and by helping others, I hope to empower them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

What is my Story about Alcohol?

During my childhood, my dad died due to alcoholism. Until the age of 20 years, I only drank at special family occasions such as weddings, Easter, and Christmas. However, when I came to study and live in the UK, my drinking gradually became part of my life (BBQ, preparing a meal in the evening, meeting with friends, neighbours and with work colleagues).

Then due to the lockdown, stress related to work, and relationship breakdowns, I drank more thinking it will help me to relax and to sleep. However, my mental health was at rock bottom, and I gained more than 12 kilos! My face was puffy, and my stomach looked like I was continuously bloated.

Do you feel connected with my story about Alcohol?

While I studied for my nutrition diploma, my epiphany came about the impact of alcohol on my brain and my body. My course underlined the dangers of drinking alcohol on our health. Before, I thought alcohol was a friend. At that time, nobody around me talked about the health consequences of alcohol.

We often hear that knowledge is power, in my case, gaining a greater understanding of the risks of drinking too much alcohol made a big change to my life.

With the help of nutrition, education around alcohol, and sober coaching, I managed to stop drinking alcohol, stop the sugar cravings, lose weight, and rebuild myself with more confidence and less anxiety. Nowadays, I feel more in control of my life.

My mission is to educate people to make the best decisions for their body. So, they can grow a healthier version of themselves and adopt healthier lifestyles.
